17 months

I have been feeling a little neglectful of Laney in my blog lately. So, today it is all about her. 17 months ago, she was born. If I can forget the first 17 hours of that day, I will say it was a great day. At the time, I didn't think life could get better than having a newborn. And I know I have thought that about every stage since. But right now is so fun. Here are some of my favorite things about Laney right now.
  • She has funny eating habits. For example, when I give her peas and carrots, she eats all of the peas first. And when I cut up banana for her, if the banana is on its side on her tray, she has to turn it to the top or bottom before she eats it. (Can you say, OCD?) And, if you happen to be eating something without sharing with her, she will come to you and open her mouth wide. That is the sign that she wants you to open your own mouth so she can see what you have. . . and then she hopes you will share with her.

  • She loves blankets. She loves her blankies that Grandma Cannon made her. She cannot sleep if she doesn't have at least 2 of them. In our family room, we have a basket full of blankets. Usually at least once a day she takes the first 3 or 4 blankets out of the basket. And all of the blankets that used to be nicely folded and stacked on the changing table in her room are now all over the floor. And she usually brings a new one out to the family room each day. She even likes to hide under blankets and she gets frustrated if she cannot cover herself as well as Erich can cover her. (Obviously she doesn't suffer from my claustrophobia.)
  • She loves to dance. Erich recently got a new cell phone. We keep his old one charged as she likes to play with it. She mainly enjoys the music on it (it plays MP3s). She will turn on the music, carry it around, and dance. Always puts a smile on my face!
  • She always wants to sit right by you. No matter what you are doing, she wants to be as close as possible. It can at times be a little bit much but I love that she wants to be with us!

Here are a few recent pictures of her. I apologize for the pajamas and emo hair. Erich doesn't believe in dressing her in clothes or doing her hair. Those are my jobs!

This one takes us back to Erich's earlier life--one I had to finish getting rid of when we began dating. Laney found this evidence of his punk rock stage in the closet and has since thought it was a really cool bracelet to wear. Laney loves shoes. She is always bringing shoes to us. And she always wants them on her. Erich obliged her one day. Unfortunately, it didn't last long. Her feet come out when she tries to pick the shoes up!

What a cute girl! I love that she wants you to open your mouths and show her the partially chewed food. Erich must be her dad. I had almost forgotten about Erich punk rock days - now if Laney can just get some mechanic shirts with someone else's name on them, we'll know for sure she is Erich's daughter.

I really do love that particular age, she looks so pretty in the pics even with crazy hair. She is such a sweet little peaches and cream baby! Punk rock?
