Yesterday, Laney also escaped. Erich was in his office working and I had just put Allie in bed. I could hear Laney talking to herself and playing with shoes so I decided to seize the moment and run check my email upstairs. (Bad mom, I know). I was literally upstairs for 3 minutes. When I came down, I went to find Laney and the shoes. Unfortunately, I found an open front door instead. I mentioned that she learned to open the doors and we obviously had forgotten to bolt the door. (again bad mom, I know). I yelled to Erich and went running out the front door. She wasn't in my driveway or front yard and I started to panic. I turned to look at the neighbors' houses. There she was, finishing crossing the neighbor's driveway and approaching the steps to the front door. I yelled to her and ran to get her. She did not seem at all phased by the matter. In fact, I have caught her many times since trying to see if by chance the door was unlocked and she could again leave. Should I be worried that my 18 month old is already trying to escape from us?

The Pumpkin Patch and an Escapee
Yesterday I took the girls to the pumpkin patch with my friend Amanda, and her friend Annie as well as their girls. We had a lot of fun. Laney seemed to enjoy being outside for so long. Being her normal self though, she didn't quite get the ropes and how she was supposed to remain inside the roped area (Good thing Amanda was so willing to help me with both my kids!). She was interested in climbing on anything she could and she couldn't get enough of looking at baby Elizabeth (Amanda's baby) in her stroller. Laney was also intrigued by the animals. Allie loved it as well- she slept and had a bottle while being there. Here are a few pictures.

I love Laney the Bat. The latch will become your friend. It will become habit to latch it. I love the extra peace of mind.
Laney looks adorable in her Halloween shirt. Thankfully Ella has never tried to open the front door without me there. That would scare me to death!
Oh dear! :) Scary, but also very funny from the not mother viewpoint.
Mandy! I think it's time for a latch! The escaping thing must run in your family! Go to Home Depot, now.
Don't feel too bad, Mandy. Pam likes to tell the story about how a strange man showed up at the front door with me and Austin and said "Lady, are these your kids?". At least you figured it out first!
