Sisterly Love
Laney has already developed a strong love for her sister. If I happen to have Allie on the couch, Laney runs to her and tries to get her. She thinks it is her responsibility to try to give her the pacifier or finish feeding her the bottle or just hold her. Even though I try to explain soft to her, she doesn't seem to get it. She seems to be poking her too hard, sitting a little too close (like on top of her), or just scaring both Allie and I.
While sometimes I wish the love wasn't so strong, this morning I was glad that Laney really understood who her sister was. I heard Laney waking up, so I jumped in the shower. As I was getting out of the shower I could tell that my mom had just retrieved Laney from her crib for me. Next thing I know, I heard Laney's high-pitched voice screeching, "Allie. Allie." Turns out that my mom had just taken her into the other room to check on Allie. She knew that little baby was her sister- someone she adores at less than 2 weeks old. (It makes me even happier because most of Laney's words don't make much sense to anyone but her. But Allie is well understood!)
On a side note, I am feeling much better about this motherhood thing. We go back to Utah tomorrow, my mom leaves us on Wednesday, and I really think I will be fine. I am sure I will still cry but I think that I will be able to handle these two girls after all. So for those of you who are were worried about me, I think you can stop. I mean I was able to get the girls and myself ready for 9 am church all by myself yesterday- doesn't that count for something!

that's a sweet story, I'm glad Laney is adjusting to the new baby so well! You'll be great Mandy, you don't give yourself enough credit, and you probably expect too much of yourself at the same time! You're an amazing mother, just give yourself time to adjust, and act a little like it's hard still so you can get some more help out of your husband I say milk it!
So sweet! This is making me very excited to have another girl. And I have never doubted your mothering abilities! I'm amazed you are even attempting church this early!
I have to go down to Lehi on Fri morning for tennis. I will be done at 9:30, would you like some help? I could come for a couple of hours if that would help you.
You sound like the perfect mother, Mandy. Very impressed that you're already doing church AND showers. Nice job!
Hi Mandy! Congratulations! You show us all so clearly why you may have felt overwhelmed. Did you say "church"? Or "getting ready"??? Most of us (who are also overwhelmed when a new baby comes) don't do either of those things.
