I am not going to lie. From the time my babies are born, I try to limit their interaction with the pacifier. I let them have one if they are really upset and they get them to go to sleep if needed. I don't want them to become too attached to one for selfish reasons. I fear having my babies crying in the middle of the night because they can't find their binky and they need the binky to get back to sleep. And I don't want to deal with really cutting them off from it at an older age.
By 3 or 4 months though, Laney was no longer interested in it. I let out a sigh of releief.
Allie seemed to be following in her sister's footsteps. Within the past month, she often go a day or two without ever seeing the binky and she didn't seem to mind. I would give her one on occassion in the middle of the night but she seemed to be losing interest in the giant green soothie!
Until yesterday. Three different times, I saw her sneaking her thumb into her mouth. I about died. I started to panic. I much prefer the pacifier to the thumb. And so now, I am trying to re-introduce the binky. I hope it works.
(But I am not going to lie, I didn't hear her once last night. Hopefully it was just good sleeping and not thumb sucking that was the cause of that gift.)

THe thumb is nice because it can't be lost but I'm with you on the pacifier. I would much prefer the pacifier - at least I can take that away!

Oh I am with you on this one Mandy. It is much easier to wean from a binki ( Although Addy still has one...we're working on taking it away). Luke has tried to suck his thumb a few times already...so we shall see. Good luck!
Oh, I know how you feel. Carson wanted to suck his thumb, he doesnt, but he is growing fonder of the binki these days. He now knows he can tell me that is what he wants. What to do?! I only give it to him for bed time, and in the car... but lately, with teeth... ugh, I give it to him more often. I know, I am setting myself up for more terrible twos than I want (considering that I don't want him to have a binki at all past 2). But, you are right... it is much better than the thumb! He did wake up looking for his binki, but, once he got to about 6 or 7 months he could find it himself and ease himself back to sleep. Now, he doesnt need that... good luck!!!!! It is better than feeding her every time she cries!
binkys are much better than thumbs. Binkys you can take away, I have a four year old who still sucks her thumb, and unfortunately I can't take that away from her!
