Like Father Like Daughter

Disclaimer- This post might seem long, strange, and weird to you. But remember this blog is also for me. And for the Baby Pooper in the future. I want to have real memories to share with her. This is one of those.

Ever since Laney made her arrival into this world, I have wondered what she would be like when she grew up-- what kind of personality, who she would act like, and so on. As she continues to grow up, I love to see Laney emerge. And I feel as though I am seeing a lot of Erich develop in my girl. While I have always thought of myself as a little bit shy and reserved until I felt comfortable with people, Erich has always been outgoing and attention-seeking. He is immedaitly interacting with people wherever we go and seems to instantly make friends. And that is how Laney seems to be as well. Here is why.

This week Laney has had a few different encounters with kids her own age. On Thursday we went to visit my friend Kelli and her son Cole who is just about a month older than Laney. Last night, we went to our friends Ryan and Rachelle's house who have a 3 year old son Jamison and a 1 year old son Carter. In both meetings, Laney has had no reservations about playing with new friends. She immedaitely is climbing on her new friends, grabbing at them, and chasing them. The boys haved seemed hesitant at first and probably a little put-off by this stranger's boldness. Nothing stops my daughter though. She continued to attack/play with them until they were ready to play back. And that is fun to watch.

The second event occurred during Sacrament meeting today. We sit in the folding chairs to give Laney a little more room to play so that she can make it through the meeting. She likes to pull herself up on the chairs and look around. About halfway through the meeting today, a lady walked in and sat directly behind us. She gave us no thought and was listening to the speaker. Laney felt that it was her job to get the lady to pay attention to her. She would hit the chair for a bit, smile, and then look up for approval from this woman. The woman ignored Laney. She tried it a few more times. Again, the woman ignored Laney. Laney then whined and pulled on me until I picked her up to hold her. I did and Laney started to smile and talk to this woman. Again, the woman ignored her. After 5 minutes or so and much frustration, Laney gave up on that woman and sought attention from others around us. Hopefully one day Laney will realize that not everyone's worlds revolve around her. But mine sure does!

Now when she starts buying expensive car parts on EBAY we'll know she really takes after Erich!

On a serious note, how could that lady ignore Laney? Didn't she see how cute she is?
