A glimpe into the future

Today I watched my friend Amanda's 3 week old daughter Elizabeth for about an hour. She was tiny and delightful and lots of fun to hold. I tried to remind myself that in 3 and 1/2 months, I would have another one of those. So crazy.

Laney was asleep when Elizabeth first came over which made everything very easy. Upon waking up about halfway through our time with Elizabeth, Laney became very intrigued with this new little person. She wanted to sit on my lap by Elizabeth. She wanted to get Elizabeth's pacifier. She wanted to touch her. She wanted to take her blanket. She even wanted to play toys with her. (Luckily, I had Elizabeth far enough away that she couldn't hit her.) I had to entertain Laney more in that half hour than I have in the 14 months previous- and she wanted more to do with me in that half hour than in the 14 months previous. I sensed a little bit of curiosity and a little bit of jealousy in my daughter. Oh, does she have a lot to learn in the next few months. Luckily, I think we will all survive the new addition. It's nice to get a little peek at what the future holds.

Laney will be a great big sister. Funny, as I was reading this, I became suddenly glad that I am not about to have another baby. But that's because I have a little one who takes so much energy. You and Laney will be so ready for #2!
