I go back to work 2 weeks from tomorrow. (It is going to be a sad day for me but that is a whole other post.) My students start 3 weeks from tomorrow. Usually I try to buy myself a new outfit or something to get me in the spirit of going back to school. But seeing how I am 7 months pregnant, I don't really want to buy any new clothes. So this year, I think I might do some back to school shopping for a little make-up. This will be a very new adventure for me. Aside from mascara and Burt's Bees chapstick, I don't own any make-up. And this is why I have a dilemma. I don't know what brand to buy, what colors to buy, or even how to properly apply any of it. (including the mascara I currently wear.)
So that is where I turn to my blogging friends. What do I buy and how do I put it on?
Disclaimer: I am not looking for lots of make-up to wear. I am not even looking for stuff I have to wear on a regular basis. I just would like to have the option of putting it on. I would like to maybe have some color on my cheeks in the long winter months. Or be able to cover circles under my eyes in a few months when I have a newborn who is waking me up to eat and I am forced to go back to my job. Or to just look a little dressed up on occasion.
So, can you help me with my back to school shopping?

I really like Benefit products. You must get their boi-ing concealer for under your eyes. I just put some on my finger and rub it in. Good stuff and super easy.

I also use their mascara and their Dallas bronzer. Oh, and the "you rebel" tinted moisturizer is good too.
OK, so my link didn't show up. But I'm sure you are smart enough to figure out how to search their website on your own!
I'm a mac fan. The ladies at the counter are usually very good at helping me pick out just the right shade. I think a little blush and some tinted lipgloss would be fun.
I like bare minerals but mostly I am a target girl. It is hard with our coloring but actually a really bright blush shade looks good and brightens my face - considering I am as pale as death itself. I think makeup is so hard. Good luck! Also I can't wait to see your new house - Congratulations!!!
Bare Minerals, no doubt! It is so light, I have tried Lancome, and Mac, and Perscriptives, and Clinique, all to find the right feel of makeup-- I hate it to look cakey, so Bare Minerals is the best!!! I love it, I have only used it for like 3 months and I will never go back. You have to get used to it, because it is different-- but it is the healthiest thing for your skin, plus it looks great. Even Jason, who doesnt care even a little bit, says he prefers that makeup because it doesnt look like Im going to some glamour shots photo shoot!! They give you all sorts of instruction materials on how to use it. Plus the person at the makeup counter will tell you what color to use. Is there an Ulta in Provo? Try to find an Ulta or a Sephora, they'll get you taken care of!
I love Aveda (or Origins) makeup. They have a store in the university mall. For your back to school shopping, I would recommend:
*bronzer (for a summerkissed look on the cheeks)
*maybe a peachy pink blush.. just a little bit
*a nude or pearl (or light pink) colored eye shadow (to feel a little dressed up...but very discretely)
*lip gloss. I can't stand anything else on my lips!! (I do buy the lipgloss from Lancome though. Juicy Tubes is great. Or bath and body works sells CO Bigelow which I love for an every time your lips feel dry application. I hear that Stila's lip gloss (Nordstrom) is SO great but a little pricey. I have done a good amount of reasearch on glosses (my staple piece of makeup)..
*mascara: even with my dark hair I stick with brown or brown/black. I like it to look natural and elongating. none of this chunky volumizing stuff. (Lancome has great mascara. I've heard good things about MAC mascara and I actually really love the mascara they sell in 2 packs at Costco.)
I would suggest either walking into the Aveda store and telling them what you want (they will do free make up application and find your colors) or the NOrdstrom makeup counter. I've been wanting to try Bobbi Brown for a while now. (Almost more than any other company they boast "natural!") I hope the tips help. Let us know what you go with.
I would have to say I too am a bare minirals girl. I don't often wear makup but when I do I will pull it out. It is a light powder that gives you a fresh and brightened look. I love their blush too. I also am a drus store user when it comes to concealer and mascara. The brand does not matter to me in this case just as long as the colors match.
oh...you can get bare minirals at Sephora or one of their boutique stores, or on-line I am sure.
Just had to come back to say, I have a bunch of Bare Minerals too and used to use it all the time, but the powder just got to be annoying after a while. It's good stuff though.
And like Kelli, I love Origins, although I mostly just use their skin care stuff. I've never bought makeup from them.
I took Nancy's previous advice and have tried Bare Minerals and love it! Prior to this I used Mac (I still use some of it). There is a brand called Fresh that has great lip glosses and I like their mascara. They have a lip moisturizer called Sugar that I am trying out, I am still trying to get off of Carmex! When I was in CA they had a Bare Escentuals store right next door to the new Fresh store in South Coast...They sell all of this at Sephora or online!
