The Bad:
- I am 6 1/2 months pregnant and have a bad back- need I say more. Luckily, Erich has had very few complaints about doing all of the manual labor and having to collect boxes from all over the house because I couldn't move them.
- It seems as though Laney and I had a slight case of the stomach flu which now seems to have hit Erich. Yet, we suffered through it while packing, moving, and unpacking. (Isn't there some saying about what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger?)
- We are sad to move the neighborhood we lived in. We have a lot of good friends there and really enjoyed the ward. So we will be sad to not live within walking distance of our friends. Luckily, we live in the 21st century and have cars so we will still be able to see them on a regular basis.
- We found out today that our foundation isn't quite so firm. It will need a little help. Luckily, it can be fixed. And Erich is the optimist about it. He informed me that this foundation problem is the closest thing to a catastrophe that we have faced in our 4 years of marriage and it won't kill either of us so it isn't that big of deal. (I guess I will survive without new family room furniture for a little while longer.)
- Laney has turned into a monkey. With boxes and furniture all over the place, Laney has become a climbing fool. She has only taken a few spills and none were serious. I think she thinks our new house is a jungle gym. Won't she be sad tomorrow morning when she sees how much unpacking I have done.
The Good:
- It's a new house. It actually was built a few years ago but the builder never finished it (he never finished the kitchen/bathroom floors or put hardware on the doors). Erich bought it from the bank with intentions of fixing it up and selling it. As the birth of Babensteins part 2 has creeped up on us, it has become very apparent that we needed more space. This house just seemed like the right place for us to go. So here we are.
- It drastically has cut down on my commute time. I will go from a 20 minute commute to about a 6 minute commute. This makes it a little easier for me to be a working mom. I get an extra 30 minutes a day at home! (Don't worry, it isn't in the same city as my school so we won't have to go to church with any of my students. If we did that, they might find out what my real last name was!)
- Aside from that foundation project I mentioned above, this house doesn't have projects that need to be finished. Erich had them all done as part of the preparations for selling it so I was the lucky winner.
- This house has room to grow. It is not that much bigger than our last house but it feels a lot more spacious. It has an extra bonus room and has an unfinished basement. So realistically, we could be here forever.
- The neighbors seem nice. One family even came over to meet us last night and brought us dinner tonight. Can't complain about that. And one of my best friends from work lives in the ward too.
- Laney has become a monkey. I love to see her be so adventurous and independent. The jungle gym has definitely given her that opportunity.
- I have the kitchen all unpacked. Don't ask about the rest of the house. Just know the kitchen is unpacked.
So that is the latest news for Erich, Laney, and I. We have a new residence. We look forward to making it a little more ours but it might take a little while. I will post some pictures when I take some which might not be until my house looks a little more presentable!

I'm glad Laney the monkey is settling in. I love the new house and am excited to stay there next time we are in town.
Wow so busy! Glad things worked out with the house and all, it will be so nice to be so close to work. Laney is probably having the time of her life with all the boxes, be sure to save a few:)
Oh wow, I had no idea! Can't wait to see pictures!
Congrats on the house, Mand. I really liked it before, so I'm excited to see it once you've gussied it up. Does Laney know that one room isn't her's yet?
Congratulations on a new house! We have had foundation problems before. I thought it was the end of the world and it ended up being relatively inexpensive and fixed within a week! So I hope your story ends the same way... good luck.
congrats Mandikins! I'm so excited for you, I loved the house. I can't believe your neigbor brought dinner, you are so blessed to live by such nice people...someday I will live by nice people!
Wow! Enjoy your new home! Good luck with the unpacking.
YOu guys moved? Holy cow!
I'm so sad to see you go. We really missed you guys in church today. What a bummer! Can't wait to see your new house though. keep us posted.
Mandy, what city do you live in now? I hope I get to see your maybe-forever house soon.
We moved to Cedar Hills- it is just north of Pleasant Grove. Most people didn't know because we didn't tell people. I don't like people to make a big deal over things so I just hide info.
How exciting! And how smart of you to get all settled before the baby comes. Good luck!
