Car seats

I am quickly approaching that time when I need to get Allie a new car seat. Ans so I am seeking advice.

Right now, Laney uses the Britax Roundabout- not that print but you get the idea. Everyone I know recommended Britax based on their safety ratings and such. We have had no problems with it. So do I buy Allie the same car seat.

Or do I get one of the bigger Britax models like the marathon, boulevard, or regent to put Laney in and put Allie in the Roundabout?

Or do I buy a different brand car seat altogether? In other words, are Britax as good as all the hype makes them out to be?

I think Erich would probably want me to buy this one. It is made by Recaro, they make race car seats. It is bigger than the Roundabout and cheaper than the Marathon.
So, what do you all do about car seats for your kids? And I don't want to make this into a debate, I just want to know what everyone else uses.

I have the Marathon for Ella and I like it. I have heard the same thing about Britax and so that is my main reason for going with that brand. I will probably just move Claire into Ella's seat and put Ella in a booster when the time comes, but your girls are probably too close in age for that to work.

If I were to go back in time I would probably get the marathon because my girls are getting close to being too big for their runabouts. But, your kids are smaller so they may be able to fit in the RA until is time to move up to a booster.

The Britax Marathon is an excellent seat. It has a 65 lb harness weight limit, which is fantastic because you can keep your kids in a 5-point harness longer before converting to a booster. If you want to upgrade, I'd get the Marathon based on the weight limit alone.

Recaro makes some cool seats (and yes, the dad's tend to love these due to their race car pedigree) - if you're going to get the Recaro, keep in mind that they can be a bit narrow for some kids.

I say go for the same seat or the Marathon. I moved Asher into the Monarch (Bratax booster) when I moved Ivy to his Roundabout and I don't really like it (it's a booster that can grow with them- had good reviews and I bought in a rush before we moved). I am kind of weird and like things to match so that's why I would have two Roundabouts or try and get a marathon with fabric that matched or coordinated with the one I already had and I wouldn't switch brands altogether- but that's just me. Good luck! I'd love to hear what you decide.

We did a lot of research prior to the purchase of our car seat. Jason hated the Britax because both of the models at babies r us had broken straps, and the sales guy said "Its because so many people keep buckling it, and it just broke". Jasons theory was that if we kept buckling ours, it would break. Anyway, he didnt like how cheaply made the buckle was on the Britax, so we went for the more sturdy buckle on the Evenflo Triumph Advance™ Deluxe Convertible Car Seat. I absolutely LOVE this car seat. And, my sister who has a Britax, wishes she got mine. The shoulder straps just move up and down, so you don't have to take them out when they get bigger. You can use it up to 50 lbs. And, the thing I like the most is how you tighten the straps. You just click until it stops, so you know your kid is in there safely. It wasnt about the money for us, but Evenflo is a LOT cheaper, and its just all together a better seat if you ask me. The safety rating is just the same as the Britax. Let us know what you end up doing-- I'd be interested to see what you pick, and why! GOOD LUCK!

Hi I just stumbled upon your blog through Jay and Rachel's blog.

I would get the marathon. I love Britax..so much so, that for our second baby instead of reusing my peg perego infant car seat that was in perfect condition, I switched to the britax infant car seat.

I'm no good at these kind of recommendations, but it's fun to be back in the blogging world and see what you've been up to. The kids are cute as always and I love the new header, so cute, and they are looking too old, how does that happen so fast? We need to get together. Thanks for feeding Trav when we were gone.

I have the Marathon and love it. I bought it on ebay, brand new and got a good deal on it...with cute fabric!

I'm not at the front facing car seat stage yet, but my sister has a Marathon and for her second child she got a cheaper seat (Fisher Price). She doesn't like that she can't get the seat as tight in the car, it sits more upright than the Marathon, and it's harder to transfer to other cars to name a few of her dislikes. She says the Marathon is hands down her fave and wishes she would have gotten another for her second child.

Holy cow. I just use a Graco whatever. Who knows this much about car seats? Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but we really only drive to grandma's house.
